Several steps are involved in the painting process.
First, I like to discuss with the client his/her needs and expectations. No art purchase is more personal to the buyer than a portrait. We review the medium, the size of the portrait, and the subject matter.
Second, an appointment is scheduled for a photographic sitting of the subjects. I prefer to take my own photographs and use this as an opportunity to get to know the subjects. A contract is signed at this time. The contract requires a 25% deposit. Next, an appointment is scheduled to review proofs and mutually agree upon the pose to use for the portrait.
Finally, when the portrait is completed, arrangements are made for the delivery of the completed portrait. The balance of the commission is collected at the time of delivery.

What is the cost for a portrait?
The cost is determined by the size of the finished work and the subject(s) involved. The most inexpensive portraits are smaller with a plain background. These are the most popular. For more information on pricing and fees, please check the pricing page by clicking on the Pricing button above.
What is your painting style?
I specialize in realistic portraiture. That does not mean that the finished product will look like a photograph. It simply means that this is not impressionist, cubist, dada-ism, or pop art. So repeat after me. "This is a painting, not a photograph."
How long does it take?
How long it takes depends greatly on the subject or subjects and the complexity of the background. A simple portrait of a single person can take as little as a month to complete.
A family portrait in the library will take longer. After the portrait is finished, the paint will need to cure before shipping. Oil paints are known for their long drying time but living in
the desert, as I do, has its advantages.
